Safe engineers

Safe work is a specialism within the trade. A safe engineer opens, services, installs and moves safes, and can advise on the rating a home or business needs.

Opening a locked safe

A forgotten combination, a lost key or a failed electronic lock is the most common call. Engineers start with non-destructive methods such as manipulation or bypass, and drill only when necessary, repairing the safe afterwards where possible.

Combination changes and servicing

Changing a combination when staff leave, replacing a failing electronic keypad, and servicing mechanical locks all keep a safe reliable.

Choosing and installing a safe

Insurers rate safes by the cash (and roughly ten times that in valuables) they will cover overnight. Safes certified to European standard EN 1143-1 carry a grade, and lower-security safes may be tested to EN 14450. A safe is only as good as its fixing: it should be bolted to a solid floor or wall as the manufacturer specifies. Engineers also move heavy safes, which needs the right equipment.
